How Profound is That?

One of my favorite places to be is among mountains.

There are plenty in the Philippines, mostly covered in dense rainforest.

There are some in Japan.

There are many in Korea, covered by electricity pylons and freeways.

There are even some in America. They call them funny names there, like "Rockies" and "Monument Valley".

However, there is a tiny area in England ruled over by the UK Government, and called simply "The English Lake District", as the mountains are peppered with lakes and other stuff with water in them.

My family and I went on holiday there a few times.

One of them was particularly memorable.

We were holed up in a small village in a tiny hotel in the middle of nowhere.

It all went swimmingly well until we had the equivalent of a "brownout". In the East, these are easy to cope with, as most places have their own diesel-powered generators.

NOT in England!

Everything went absolutely BLACK. I am not talking mere darkness here, but BLACK.

We were crawling around our room on hands and knees because we COULD NOT even see our hands in front of our faces. After a few minutes wondering which member of my family I was actually feeling, we made our way on all fours to the hallway, where we tried to find our way out.

Once outside, we saw each other for the first time by the light of the stars only.

An hour later, power was restored, after a few grazed knees and bruised heads.

I managed to top that by falling over (or across, under, on top of, depending on your point of view) a parked car! Typical of the French just to leave it in my way (it was a Renault).
