For a while after Aqua gave us all the delights of "Barbie Girl", several people tried their own versions, and, in the Philippines at least, there was opened an unofficial "competition" to find the silliest song in that vein. I present two of the best here.
The first one is called "Space Invaders", and it appears to be just a jolly song. Until, that is, you listen to the lyrics. The words are so nonsensical they seem to make their own sense ("up and down"?)
Then comes the reference to the worst movie ever made. "Plan 9 from Outer Space" was the last movie Bela Lugosi starred in ( The second Dracula from Hollywood ). The guy passed away about three months into the shoot, but Hollywood carried on with the movie anyway.
Notice the singer's expression as he says "You cannot escape our Master Plan".
The second selection is just as silly but a little less contrived. It is called "Tarzan and Jane". Possibly based on Disney's "George of the Jungle", it is a pastiche of all that was bad about the "Barbie Girl" genre, and yet still manages to be funny. "Go Cheetah, get banana. Hey Monkey, get Funky!". Chimps are not monkeys!
What is not heard here at the very outset is the plethora of animals in the intro. On the CD, there are at least 10 animal noises, including - wait for it - a SHEEP.
Coupled with the increasingly metallic CLANG as Tarzan "swings", it is a fun song, and I remember in The Philippines betting with the Taxi drivers which would be next on the radio!
